The academic school year is within reach, and soon your children will be saying goodbye to those long and carefree summer days. As parents, there are ways you can help your children get back into the swing of things before the first day of school. Here are 5 great tips to make the transition smoother and stress-free.
1. Introduce the school routine
For most children, summer and school schedules vary moderately. Making the switch can be stressful, so have your children go to sleep earlier each night leading up to the first day. That way, they won’t have to wake up hours earlier than they are used to right off the bat.
2. Tour the school
Does your child’s school host an open house? If so, be sure to go! This is especially important for children who are going to a new school. Walking around and finding classrooms before the first day takes a lot of pressure off of your child on their first day.
3. Get Supplies
This one may seem obvious, but ensuring that your children have all of their supplies ready on the first day of school is important. They will feel prepared and ready to take on the new school year. If there are any new supplies, show them how to use it so they are comfortable when it’s time to use it in the classroom.
4. Reach out to friends
Call around to see if any of your children’s friends are in the same classroom as yours. If so, schedule a play date for them to get reacquainted with each other. That way, on the first day they will have a familiar face when they walk into the classroom.
5. Avoid pressure
Some parents may feel the need to refresh their children’s memory with quick lessons from the previous year. However, this may cause unnecessary stress and anxiety for your child. Once school starts they’ll get back into the swing of things before you know it.
Try these tips to ensure a smooth and successful beginning of the new academic school year. We wish all students a wonderful year!
