Meet the 2016 Olympian from Wylie, TX

With the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro in full swing, it’s time to take a closer look at one athlete that is representing the great city of Wylie, Texas!

About Jackie Galloway:

Height: 5-10

Weight: 161 lbs

DOB: 12/27/1995

High School: Wylie High School, Class of 2014

College: SMU, Mechanical Engineering

Jackie was born in Crownpoint, Texas but was raised here in Wylie and attended Wylie High School. An accomplished athlete in martial arts, this will be her very first Olympic Games. She will compete in Taekwondo at the Rio Games at the weight of +73 kg. Jackie is primarily coached by her father, Gary Galloway.

Some of her career highlights include:

2015 Bronze Medalist (-73kg) at the World Championships, 2016 Pan American Championships Silver Medalist (+73kg), 2015 Pan American Games Gold Medalist (+67kg), 2014 Pan American Championships Gold Medalist, 2014 Grand Prix (Kazakhstan) Gold Medalist, 2014 Collegiate World Championships Gold Medalist, 2012 Junior World Championships Bronze Medalist. 

Aside from competition, Jackie is an avid reader who enjoys authentic Thai food, pho and Korean BBQ. On competition days, she likes to start off with oatmeal, scrambled eggs and coffee. Her favorite movie is Step Brothers and, like many others, her favorite athlete is UFC’s Ronda Rousey.
