Halloween Safety Tips for Parents

Halloween Safety TipsHalloween is officially upon us and if you have children, you know just how exciting this time of year can be! From the kids who have been itching to wear their costumes since October 1st to the young ones who are participating for the first time, jack-o-lanterns full of sweet treats are just around the corner in Bozman Farms!

While Halloween can be a fun day/night for the entire family, there are still some precautions to be taken to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Here are some tips for you and your family this Halloween:

Costume Safety
Be sure the costume fits properly and isn’t too long so that your kids aren’t tripping over themselves all night! If your child is wearing a mask, you’ll want to scope it out and make sure you can see and breathe out of it properly. If you aren’t using a mask, face paint is a great alternative, just be sure to use washable, non-toxic paint or makeup that is safe for skin.

Glow in the Dark
Since most trick-or-treating is done once the sun goes down, you’ll want to make sure your kids stay visible to both you and passing cars. This can be done by using reflective tape (available at most hardware stores) or simply adorning your child with glow sticks. Kids love glow sticks.

Adult Supervision
The days of kids roaming the streets on their own are long gone. Be sure a responsible adult accompanies them while trick-or-treating.

Plan A Safe Route
You’ll want to have a rough idea of the route you intend to take Halloween night so that you are sure to stay in well-lit areas. Only visit homes with a porch light!

Set A Curfew
If you have older kids (teens/tweens) who refuse to be accompanied by a parent (sorry, mom and dad it’s just not cool anymore) be sure to set a curfew. Discuss a route they’ll be taking, or at the very least what area they’ll be in, and a number(s) they can be reached at all times.

Lastly, you’ll want to discuss general safety tips: don’t go inside them home or cars of anyone they meet, and be sure browse through your children’s candy to ensure none have been opened or look suspicious.

Follow these Halloween safety tips and you’re well on your way to a good night of fun for the entire family in Bozman Farms.

Happy Halloween!
